A prominent South African radio and club DJ has been fatally gunned down in the metropolis of Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a nation struggling with persistent crime.

Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was attacked in the city centre on the afternoon of Tuesday.

Authorities reported the forty-year-old entertainer was confronted by three individuals, with one opened fire on him before fleeing on foot.

The motive behind the incident is unknown and no suspects have been apprehended are in custody, as per the official statement.

The Fatal Incident

Police revealed that Stock was targeted as he was departing from a premises in the vicinity of the city center landmark.

He had spent several hours at the building managing the setup of security systems, which had been reportedly taken over by unidentified individuals, as per local media.

"The report indicates the deceased was approached by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they opened fire at him before running from the location on foot," a police statement confirmed.

CCTV footage showed a individual with dreadlocked hair and dressed in what looked like a security uniform shooting on Stock before making his escape.

The DJ sought to escape after he was shot but fell down across the street.

It was further revealed that Stock had an weapon on his person and nothing was taken during the assault.

"We know they walked a long distance after the shooting, and police have been following their trail to establish their whereabouts," added an official.

A broadcasting director expressed that "Stock was more than just a TV personality. He was a talented storyteller, a passionate music lover and a warm soul who brought excitement and dynamism to every moment on screen. His artistic passion left an indefinable mark."

In a communication, the network he worked for declared Stock was known for his presence, warmth and intelligent commentary, adding that his memory "will endure".
