The veteran athlete, who achieved a milestone by becoming the most senior racer to win a downhill World Cup winner, came in third place in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This marked her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup top-three result. Impressive Performance in the French Alps Competing at the iconic venue for the first time in almost a decade, Vonn finished the course in a time of 1:20.60. She was just over a third of a second behind victor Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking the runner-up spot. "I didn't quite have enough direction on the first jump," Vonn said. "After that, I skied well. I'm happy with my performance today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was not aggressive enough." This result was her second podium at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also finished third in the downhill on Saturday. A Remarkable Comeback from Injury Vonn officially retired in February 2019 due to ongoing knee problems. However, she staged a competitive comeback in December 2024 after a partial knee replacement. With less than two months remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are scheduled for 6-22 February, Vonn's performances are timely. She boasts one gold and two bronze medals in her collection and is firmly on track to represent the United States at the 2026 Games. "When we get to Cortina, I will be where I need to be," the athlete confirmed. Aiming for Further Glory Alongside her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also aiming to increase the four overall crystal globes she has accumulated over a career spanning 20 years. She presently enjoys a substantial lead at the summit of the overall downhill standings and is sitting in fifth place in the super-G World Cup table. This current World Cup circuit features a total of nine races scheduled before the circuit finale in Norway on March 21st, 2026.
